Too Hot To Handle

I'm thinking about going nocturnal. Whether my family joins me in this endeavor is irrelevant. I'm hot all the time. And the only time I'm slightly less hot is way after dark when the sun is sending its scorching rays of fire to the other side of the earth. I would be a lot more productive if I wasn't so hot all the time.

It's only 10:00 a.m. and I'm taking a break from vacuuming because I can't see clearly from the sweat dripping into my eyes and the burning heat under my skin.

I'll tell you one thing, Saipan would be a much more comfortable place if it was just 10 degrees cooler.

I'll tell you another thing, if I had it my way, I would be living in a one-story house.

They do exist!

People see my belly and they ask, "what are you having?" I don't know. We don't know. We didn't know last month, and we still don't know, and we won't know until the baby is born.

Up until about two weeks ago, my instincts told me we were having a girl. But now? Now I have no clue. I'm totally second guessing myself and I have no real inclination as to this baby's sex.

Baby will be here in six weeks and since I gave away all my baby stuff and am basically starting over again, I've been spending a lot of time online buying what I can each payday to get ready. And do you know what I found? There aren't a lot of gender neutral color options. Boy sets - blue. Girl sets - pink or purple. And don't give me that whole green is gender neutral crap. No it isn't. Green is for boys.

Yellows, whites, creams. That's it. Those are the only real gender neutral options. And they, apparently, don't exist. Except at Old Navy. Thank you, Old Navy! Now my baby has something to wear besides plain white Gerber onesies.

Heed my advice, mother.

My mother and my aunt love to watch movies at the theater. They almost always watch comedies. So I was quite surprised when one day several months ago my mother asked me about Breaking Dawn

Me: Breaking Dawn? No, mom, you wouldn't like it.
Her: What's it about?
Me: Vampires.
Her: Yuck!

Then she surprised me again a few days later when she came home and told me they went and saw Breaking Dawn

Me: How was it?
Her: Awful!

It was no use explaining to her that Breaking Dawn is the fourth of a five-part movie series that is based on a bestselling book series. And it's actually really great and a lot of it is about the struggle between good and evil and it actually has a lot of old school romance in it. And I don't know why you watched it because I told you you weren't going to like it - especially since you didn't see the first three movies! And I know that no matter what it really is about, in your mind it's only going to be about vampires! I already know your style and I didn't want to have to feel this way and defend my movie! Nope, no use. She just couldn't understand why I and my 16-year-old niece are crazy Twilight super fans

Her: But I liked the wolves.

I guess we can assume she's Team Jacob. Which makes sense because my son is Jacob and she seems to like that strong masisu look.

So much stuff for something so tiny.

Dear friends, for quite some time now I've debated with myself about whether I would say anything to you at all. And I've come to the conclusion that yes, yes I will say something.

Baby #3 is coming on May 30th whether we are ready or not. And I'm trying to get ready as much as I can, but between my sister and I, we gave away almost all of our baby things so I've been spending a little bit of time each payday to buy things for baby because, let's face it, no one is going to throw me a shower for my third baby. I'm pretty much starting from nothing; just about the only things I've kept are our crib, stroller, and a broken highchair.

My dear friend, Mona, is so kindly giving me her cloth diapering sets and she already gave me her baby carrier. So check and check - thank you sister! Our baby monitor already arrived - check. As well as some essentials like flat fold cloth diapers for burp cloths - check. And my favorite disposable nursing pads (just for the first month or two until I can more easily use washable ones) - check. Oh, and a baby bathtub - check.

But there are still a lot of things we don't have. Like receiving blankets, clothes, newborn mittens, clothes, breast pump, play yard, rocker/bouncer, etc. So to help me organize what and when I will buy these things, I created a wish list on Walmart (I started at Amazon, but I've found that my love for Walmart online has been reignited due to price and shipping options). The wish list really was intended only for me, but I've decided to put it out there to see if there's anything on it that you have and are selling or looking to give away. I'm in no way asking you to buy anything for us, but I'm also in no way stopping you from doing so.

There are probably more things we need than are on the list, but this is all my pregnant brain can currently wrap my mind around. The onesies on the list are more of a reminder to buy clothes in general and not that those are the only clothes I plan to buy this baby. Though I do love onesies. I'd just like to know whether we are having a boy or girl before I start committing to color choices. Thank goodness Old Navy has a few gender neutral options.

Let me know if you want me to email you the list, otherwise, due to address and phone number privacy concerns, I'm only linking to the list on Facebook when I share this post. There are a lot of other women having babies around the same time as me, and many of them are first time moms, so I imagine a lot of baby gear has already been passed along to them. But if there is anything else that you're looking to unload or sell, please send me an email.

Easter Preparations

Happy Easter, friends. I tried to get some rest yesterday since I had a fever on Friday. And if you've ever been pregnant and sick before, you know how miserable it is to be pregnant and sick. I wasn't able to take a nap, but I was able to just rest. And fix Easter baskets.

Katelyn's Easter Eggs 2012

And in the afternoon we dyed eggs and decorated cookies at my sister's house.

Easter Cookies

We only found one egg dyeing kit, which was supposed to make these fun swirly designs on the eggs, but it really just made spots. And the colors were very light, so we also made some of our own dye where we could control the depth of the colors. Often times, the kids moved their eggs from the swirly dyes to the food dyes.

Jacob's Easter Eggs 2012

To make the dyes, we used:

approximately 1/8-1/4 C White Vinegar
approximately 3/4 C or more of hot water
10-18 drops of food coloring

Basically, the vinegar and hot water combine to make about a cup of liquid. Then just add as much dye as you want to create the color you like.

Dyeing Easter Eggs 2012

That's my nephew, Maui. I've never seen a kid take such care and consideration when designing and dyeing Easter eggs.

Maui's Easter Eggs 2012

We also did some egg tie dyeing, (mostly) following HelloBee's tutorial.

Then we ended in the best way possible. With cookies!

Lots of cookies!

Today is...

At least once per week, I consider homeschooling my kids. But I'm not quite sold on the idea.

My daughter is in her fourth quarter of first grade. My son will start Kindergarten next school year. And I'm having a new baby in nine weeks. In nine weeks, I will have a new baby in the house. I will have a new baby at the beginning of the summer. The summer. When there is no school. When I will be recovering and sleep deprived.

I've been thinking about activities that will be entertaining and engaging. But I'm also thinking about how I'm going make sure Katelyn retains her first grade ideas and concepts through the summer.

Despite my being somewhat crafty, I don't have many educational crafty things around the house. But I'd like to have some, so we started with this.

Fridge Calendar

I bought the pre-lined card stock in the teaching supplies section of National Office Supply and wrote in the rest. I like that they're hand written and not printed from a computer. There were something like 200 papers in the pack (cut to the size of the blue, green, and yellow ones below) so I'll be able to use these for many other projects as well. We already made some bookmarks from them.

Fridge Calendar

Every morning just before or after breakfast one or both of the kids change the date and then Katelyn reads the whole thing out loud.

I have some other things I'd like to put up so we can keep reading and practicing through the summer without making it seem like I'm forcing it on them. Don't worry, I'll keep you in the loop.

One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!”

But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”

And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
