Here's the thing, I'm not very quick at witty comebacks and I'm not very good at spontaneous debates. But I don't really care to become skilled at quick and witty comebacks - I just don't care to be that person. But if you are that person, hey, good for you, you'd probably beat me in a debate.
Here's another thing, I am not easily impressed by position or status. I don't really care where we rank against each other. Sure, some things, maybe many things, that you may have accomplished in your life might impress me - the lives you saved, the degree you earned and how you earned it, your creative invention - but, in general, I am not impressed by people. If the president of the United States showed up at my door, I'd be equally as socially awkward with him as I am with the cashier at Joeten.
So if I stumble over my words or refuse to match your crescendo as you attempt to establish your dominance, know that it is not because of intimidation. If I don't reply to your snide comment, it's more likely because I am unimpressed.
