What's in a name?

Intro to Marketing, the easiest college course I ever did take. Easier than tennis. Taught by my brother-in-law's friend, who told me the funniest joke in the world. Want to hear it? No? Okay, here goes. So this mushroom walks into a bar and says, "bartender, give me a beer." Bartender says, "hey man, we don't serve your type." Mushroom looks around and says, "aw, come on, I'm a fun guy." Get it?!

What I remember of Intro to Marketing was that I wrote a report with three other girls and our instructor used to be a nurse. All three other group members were marketing majors, so you can be sure that other than clothes and makeup, there wasn't all that much we could talk about. Except tampons! Our project was to write a marketing strategy for some product - and we chose tampons.

What if our instructor had chosen the product for us? What if she had asked us to figure out the marketing mix for CleanButt? Who do you think the target market is for a CleanButt with Filter?

Sometimes...

Sometimes I have a lot to say, but no time to say it. Other times, like now, I have a lot of time to say things, but I have nothing to say. So expect pictures over the next few days. And yes, tomorrow is Wednesday.

My nephew, Mike, accompanied by a bass guitar and drums, performed Quando, Quando, Quando at his school's uke jam last week. He was awesome! I wanted to get up and dance!

Have you heard my uncle's Chamorro rendition? It is great! Sangani yo' kuanto kuanto kuanto.....

Beyond Measure

On May 1, 2005, I was due with my first child. A girl. Her name was chosen months before and I'm sure that her soul was created at the beginning of time. Her ultrasound photo was looked at with adoration every day. She had the picture perfect baby profile.

May 1, 2005 was Mother's Day. Would I really be a mother by Mother's Day? Would I become a mother on Mother's Day? But I was already a mother. I was a mother long before the bump in my belly, before the first day of morning sickness. I was a mother even before the lines showed up on that stick. I was always meant to be a mother. God chose me to care for and nurture my two children. My two amazing children. And he sent Katelyn to me first.

On Mother's Day in 2005, I did not give birth to my baby girl. She remained safely cradled in my womb. It was nine days later that my precious, beautiful, perfect baby girl was safely in my arms. I held her and I loved her. And I cried for her. I cried because I never felt love the way I felt it when she entered this world. I cried for her because I loved her and I wanted to share life with her, to teach her, to grow with her, to be her friend. And I cried because I realized how perfect she was and how imperfect the world that I brought her into is.

On May 10, 2009, on Mother's Day, my precious, beautiful, perfect baby girl turned four years old.
Happy Birthday Katelyn Rebecca!

I love you, beyond measure.

Really? Are you for real?

I sometimes wonder if people really sit around and watch channel 41 on KMCV. You know, the channel where you can purchase ad or general announcement space - tell the island about your kid's birthday, say happy anniversary to your aunt and uncle, showcase the stuffed animals on sale at Dolphin.

I do watch it sometimes. But only because an announcement will catch my eye as I'm flipping through channels. Last night a few of them caught my eye...

Maryfred
I've known people to create their child's name by combining other names, including their own names. Yvonne + Boni = Vonnie. Frank + Anicia = Franicia. But really? Maryfred? Really?
(No offense, Mary, Fred, or Maryfred. But I just had to take a picture of this when I saw it on tv last night.)

tv breakup
Is this for real? Jesse broke up with Cristina via channel 41?! Do you think he at least texted her to tell her to watch?

Before...

Three years ago Katelyn turned one and my heart sang when she took her first steps. Also, I was uncomfortable, I had a great day, and a great weekend. One more thing: Shakermit!

Two years ago Katelyn turned two! I made a Chamorro funny! I wanted to be Saipan's biggest loser, I explained what 'anything for baby' really means, and I posted the first Wednesday What Is It? I made my first batch of mango jam. I took Jacob's UFC promo shot and I went to my first blogger's meetup. (Geez, had enough of me yet?)

One year ago Katelyn turned three! I realized my kids do look like siblings and that one is never enough.

Yeah, that's me. Before...

Two boys and a baby.

Ten years ago, while I was away at college, my boy turned two. Not my son, Jacob. My boy, Mikey - my sister's oldest child. I loved him and he loved me. Jenni came into the hallway one evening to comfort me as I cried because my heart ached to be with that young boy so full of joy and wonder. A week ago he turned 12. Happy birthday, my boy!

Mike is entertainingMike

Two weeks ago my son, my baby boy, Jacob, turned two. I love him and he loves me. He is caring and tough, he is intelligent and strong, he loves to play with and care for his family. His sister is his best friend. My heart aches when I am away from him, even if I am only two minutes away. And my heart overflows with love when I am near him. Happy Birthday, my son!

Jacob turns 2!Jacob's second birthday

Two weeks ago, the day before Jacob turned two, my sister gave birth to her fourth child - a baby girl. Two boys and two girls. All evenly spaced - boy - girl - boy - girl. They couldn't have planned it better if they tried. Her two sons at birth, as well as my boy, resembled me. Her daughter resembled her husband. This little baby at birth looked just like her mother. But I must boast a little and say that now, at two weeks old, baby Maile looks partly like me. I love that little girl and in time she will love me too. Happy Birthday, my girl!

1 My son, do not forget my teaching,
but keep my commands in your heart,

3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.

5
Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;

6 in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.

21 My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment,
do not let them out of your sight;

22 they will be life for you,
an ornament to grace your neck.

25
Have no fear of sudden disaster
or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,

26 for the LORD will be your confidence
and will keep your foot from being snared.

27 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it,
when it is in your power to act.
