Typhoon Melor....

Published by Deece at 10/03/2009

James and I took a quick drive to gas the car, get some donuts, and check out the Marina.

At the Marina

That boat is the Blue Marlin. I don't know who it belongs to, but it was rocking quite a bit and the waves had only just begun.

At the Marina

It was really neat to drive through the marina and see all the commercial boats with 5 to 10 heavy ropes holding them at dock. I wonder what it looks like now. And what it will look like during the thick of the typhoon.

Track the typhoon here. It changed course a little so the outlook for Saipan is brighter. But the outlook for Pagan is dimming.

Glad you made it through the typhoon alright. That just sounds so scary, but I'm a wuss when it comes to storms. We have tornadoes where I live, so we have a bit of scary weather , too. Not fun!

Thank you. Tornadoes? That seems so scary to me. Far scarier than typhoons...with typhoons we can prepare. Stay safe out there!

I've never seen it or heard of it hear, but typhoons and such (hurricanes, cyclones...) are supposed to pop out tornadoes sometimes.

KAP - That's nuts! I have seen tornado looking things come down from clouds and touch the surface of the ocean before. But not during a typhoon, and not over land.

Waterspouts, never seen one, Deece. You are fortuntate in my book and the defining difference between waterspouts and tornados is the first only occurs over water. Plus, waterspouts are generally less intense and destructive than tornados.
Apparently the owner of the blue marlin was very close to having it attached by the feds, which may explain his somewhat cavilier approach to securing the boat before a storm. Hope his insurance was paid up, as it must have been buffeted by what storm there was. I would imagine he took the payment for the resucue mission and paid up his insurance though. Or not?

Yikes! Did not know all that.
